Standardisation of charging ports for all electronic devices to USB-C connectors
Exporting/Importing to Saudi Arabia – Standardisation of charging ports for all electronic devices to USB-C connectors
Manufacturers and Exporters of Electronic products to KSA are hereby advised of the latest announcement by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) regarding Standardisation of charging ports for all electronic devices to USB-C connectors
Accordingly, the following enforcement dates have been announced by the Authorities:
Stage 1: 1st January 2025
Products affected: Mobile phones and other electronic devices such as headphones, earphones, keyboards and computer pointer devices (mouse), speakers, routers, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable video game devices, portable navigation systems, portable speakers etc.
Stage 2: 1st April 2026
Products affected: Laptops and portable computers.
Most of the above products are covered under the SASO IECEE Recognition Certificate (SIRC) Scheme operated by SASO and the rest of the products require the mandatory Product Certificates of Conformity (P-CoCs) and Shipment Certificates of Conformity (S-CoCs) issued by SASO approved Conformity Assessment Bodies.
Intertek Government and Trade Services (GTS) is facilitating the process for obtaining the SASO IECEE Recognition Certificate Scheme and is a SASO approved Conformity Assessment Body for operating the Saudi Product Safety Programme (SPSP). Intertek GTS can provide further guidance and assistance with these updates and how to obtain the relevant Saudi Product Safety Programme (SPSP) Certification. Laboratory Testing services for products which will undergo design modification to comply with this requirement can also be offered by Intertek’s vast network of Electrical testing Laboratories.
