Exporting/Importing Cosmetic Products to Saudi Arabia - Revised restrictions for Methyl N-Methylanthranilate (MNM) use in Cosmetic products

Manufacturers, Exporters and Importers of Cosmetics and Perfumery products to KSA are hereby informed of upcoming enforcement date of 1st July 2023 for SFDA’s Circular 30731 dated 29th July 2022 concerning the revised restrictions for Methyl N-Methylanthranilate (MNM) use in Cosmetic products.

Based on periodic reviews of evidences and studies related to the safety of ingredients in Cosmetic products, SFDA has decided the following restrictions on the use of MNM in Cosmetic products:

Rinse-off products:

• Maximum permissible concentration of MNM in rinse-off products is 0.2%

Other Cosmetic products:

• MNM shall not be used with nitrosating agents
• Maximum permissible nitrosamine content shall not exceed 50 µg/kg
• Nitrite-free containers shall be used
