FDA Outlines Post-Pandemic Plan for Medical Devices Now Marketed Under Special COVID Rules
The FDA recently unveiled its plan to provide medical device manufacturers 180 days to secure marketing authorization or clearance for medical devices marketed under public health emergency guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of PHE, policy guidelines will change and can result in non-compliance and potential recall of previously approved medical devices and PPE. Manufacturers must submit a marketing application which follows statutory and regulatory requirements where applicable (e.g., 21 CFR Part 820, 21 CFR Part 801 Subpart B and 21 CFR Part 830). For the medical device manufacturing assurance, Intertek can bring comprehensive testing and pre-certifications to support the product life cycle.
AHS PPE Taskforce Guidance
The Alberta Health Services PPE Taskforce releases an updated guideline on bringing PPE in the workplace which must meet the criteria of CSA and/or ASNI 87.1 standard for personal PPE related to eyeglasses and prescription along with cleaning instructions to prevent deterioration.
