Attendees will see real battery cell failures, learn about our failure analysis techniques, and see the value in having a failure analysis and/or quality assessment study.

During this complimentary webinar we will being discussing failures related to battery cell swelling.  The cells can swell to the point of deforming the case that houses them within a device. A battery failure analysis study can help determine why the battery is swelling and if it was caused by a manufacture defect or external environmental conditions.  There is no way to definitively determine the cause of a battery failure without opening it up.

Root cause investigations use both non-destructive and deconstructive techniques to gain a well-rounded understanding of the failure mechanism and its effects on battery materials and performance.

Non-destructive electrochemical tests and imaging are excellent diagnostic tools, but cannot identify root cause definitively.  When used in tandem with an in-depth deconstructive analysis, the cause and effects of the failure can be determined.

Attendees will see real battery cell failures, learn about our failure analysis techniques, and see the value in having a failure analysis and/or quality assessment study.

Who should attend?

Companies that outsource battery manufacturing, battery asset owners and operators.

Our Presenter
Taylor Kelly earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Houston investigating the mechano-electrochemical coupling behavior of stretchable lithium ion batteries. She brings her deep understanding of battery operation and failure to the energy industry, providing consulting and technology assessment services to energy storage manufacturers, developers, and consumers. Her recent work includes root cause analysis of battery failures and evaluating how changes in battery operation affect degradation and life.
