Notice of UAE Market Surveillance Inspections
24 Sep 2019
ESMA Inspection Campaign Commencing October 1, 2019
The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has given notice of its intention to conduct an intensive inspection campaign on showrooms and warehouses in the market commencing October 1, 2019.
These inspections will verify compliance with the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS), a mandatory regulatory program for specific products marketed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The scope of ECAS covers a range of industries including electrical products, automotive, construction, cosmetics, and food.
All manufacturers, traders, importers, and retailers must sell, display, and store products which comply with the relevant legislations and must ensure a Certificate of Conformity is available upon request. Failure to obtain a Certificate of Conformity is considered a violation and may result in legal actions such as product recall and penalties.
The market requirements are quite complex and include requirements for an ECAS Certificate of Conformity and the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM). We have a series of white papers to help manufacturers understand the requirements of the UAE ECAS programs and determine which products are in scope. In addition to a comprehensive paper offering manufacturer's guidance on the overall program, guidance documents are available on each of the following regulations:
- ECAS for Low Voltage Equipment (LVE)
- ECAS for Energy Efficiency Standards Labelling (EESL)
- ECAS Lighting Regulations for Safety & Energy Efficiency
- ECAS Explosive Atmospheres (ECASEx)
- UAE Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
