As a member of The Microfibre Consortium (TMC), Intertek works towards zero impact of fibre shedding from textiles to the natural environment. Intertek is also a signatory of the Microfibre 2030 commitment which was formed with a common ambition shared with a community of signatories, each taking accountability for addressing the problem.

Intertek’s Microfibre 2030 Commitment is to put the solutions for fibre shedding high on our offerings for our customers while contributing to the development of knowledge on the subject.

Intertek offers the TMC Test Method for microfibre testing globally. The TMC Test Method has been developed in collaboration between The University of Leeds, European Outdoor Group and The Microfibre Consortium as well as the larger stakeholder network and uses ISO 105-C06 at its core. The goal is to have publicly available knowledge sharing through the TMC database for the benefit of the textile industry and beyond.

Intertek offers:

  • 10+ labs accredited by TMC to conduct microfibre testing with the TMC Test Method globally to help our customers commit to their sustainability goals.
  • Microfibre shedding testing according to TM212-2021, Test Method for Fiber Fragment Release During Home Laundering.
  • Testing of textile and textile products with Test standard ISO 4484-1: 2023 to determine material loss from fabrics during washing.

By signing the Commitment, Intertek demonstrates its leadership and accountability in addressing the problem of microfibre pollution. This endeavor is a part of our commitment to bring quality, safety and sustainability to life. We aim to offer solutions to brands, retailers, and manufacturers to transform textile production for the greater good of our ecosystems.
