Regulation EC/643/2009 for domestic refrigerators and freezers was adopted in July 2009 and the first requirement came into force on July 1, 2010. The regulation was originally published under European Directive 2005/32/EC establishing a framework for eco-design requirements of energy using products (EuP).
The directive has been superseded by European Directive 2009/125/EC which establishes a framework for Energy related Products (ErP) to encompass the entire life cycle – all environmental factors should be considered in the product design.
