Intertek's Machiner Program

With authorization from the Intertek Fire Door and/or Frame Manufacturer, Intertek’s Machiner Program offers clients the ability to modify and label Intertek certified fire doors and/or frames as detailed within the applicable Intertek specification listings. Participants in Intertek’s Machiner Program are subjected to routine inspections by Intertek personnel at their facilities to verify that modifications made to Intertek certified doors and/or frames are done in compliance with the requirements of Intertek procedures. This gives the Authorities Having Jurisdiction the assurance and confidence they need to approve the assemblies in the field and to ensure the proper life safety requirements of the building.

With nearly 60 years in the fire testing, inspection, and certification industry, Intertek has developed a network of over 1,000 participants in its machiner program. Working with Intertek aligns you with a partner with the history, expertise, and industry involvement to meet all of your needs for certifying and labeling your fire doors and frames. Intertek’s Warnock Hersey (WH) Mark is one of the most widely recognized and accepted certification marks in the industry. Partnering with Intertek brings you a team that certify doors and frames in their entirety and critically apply engineering judgements based on an extensive knowledge of testing in a quick and efficient manner.

In addition to the general Machiner Program described above, Intertek also offers clients the ability to participate in our Raceway Installer IQP and our Hardware Installer IQP Program. Both programs offer participants the ability to perform certain machining procedures on applicable Intertek listed doors in the field and maintain the fire rating on the door.

Warnock Hersey

The Warnock Hersey (WH-ETL) Mark is North America’s leading product safety and performance mark for building and construction products.

Products bearing the Warnock Hersey (WH-ETL) Mark indicate compliance to relevant building codes, association criteria, and product safety and performance standards. Nearly 80% of North America's wood fire-rated doors bear the WH Mark.

We will use the Intertek listing report that you have been granted access to and we will also ask for a Client Information Sheet to be completed. The Client Information Sheet may have already been done when your project was quoted, so it’s possible a new one will not be needed.

This formally initiates certification of your product and allows us to work quickly toward completion.

Timeline: Acceptance of terms & conditions is typically completed in just 1-2 days.

After the Client Set-Up Form and legal entity document are submitted, you will receive a Certification Agreement that simply states you agree to the terms and conditions of the Intertek B&C Certification Program.

There are, of course, fees associated with a formal product certification. We are confident that you will find Intertek's fees much simpler and more cost-effective overall than other programs. For more detailed fee information, please see our certification costs: USA & CAN.

Timeline: This step can be completed in just 1-3 days

Our labeling guidelines are based on Intertek requirements as well as requirements found within applicable Codes and NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. Required information is included on the Aluminum or Mylar fire door labels containing the Intertek WH Certification Mark. Current Open Stock List and Label Center procedures are provided for additional guidance.

Timeline: The approximate turnaround time for our US/CAN clients is 3 weeks for custom labels (customer branded labels or those labels not found on our Open Stock list) and 2-4 business days for shipping, depending on their preferred shipping method. For all other clients, the processing times are about a week longer, but also dependent on their preferred shipping method, location, etc. The turnaround time for Open Stock labels (labels that do not contain customer branding) is 2-4 business days, depending on the preferred shipping method.

Intertek will conduct an Initial Factory Assessment (IFA) at each of your proposed manufacturing and/or machining locations. These inspections ensure that your internal processes are well-defined and allow for that location to continue manufacturing and/or machining compliant products – the way your Intertek listing report requires.

An IFA checklist is available to help you in preparation of your inspection.

Timeline: Inspections can take between 4-6 days from scheduling to completion, depending on our inspector’s availability in your area and how many facilities will need to be inspected. International inspections could take longer.

This is the document you’ve been waiting for. It’s permission from Intertek to legally use the Warnock Hersey Mark on your product.

Our certification team will add your new listing to our online directory of listed products. This is where your clients and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) can find details of your certification.

Timeline: Authorization to Mark is usually completed in 1 day
