Impact Statement:  A review of all Listing Reports is necessary to determine which products comply with new/revised requirements and which products will require re-evaluation. NOTE:  Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes:  These revisions include changes to requirements for non-metallic luminaires and for isolated, low voltage luminaires. Also covered are changes affecting power units for use with swimming pool and spa luminaires, new requirements for adhesives used in underwater luminaires and updated requirements for the accessibility of lamp terminals.  Specific details of new/revised requirements are found in table below.

Schedule:  So that shipping of products with Listing Marks will not be interrupted, an approximate schedule has been established to ensure Listing Reports are found compliant by Effective Date:

Client Action Required:

Information – To assist our Engineer with review of your Listing Reports, please submit technical information in response to the new/revised paragraphs noted in the attached or explain why these new/revised requirements do not apply to your product (s).

Current Listings Not Active? – Please immediately identify any current Listing Reports or products that are no longer active and should be removed from our records. We will do this at no charge as long as Intertek is notified in writing prior to the review of your reports.

ClauseVerdictComment
New/Revised requirements from revisions dated August 14, 2012 were not assigned an Effective Date by UL. They are included immediately below. Most likely UL did not need to establish an Effective Date as they were already following as common practice; where as other users of standard were not privy.
3.11 New – Added requirement that external power unit or transformer for a low voltage swimming pool and spa luminaire shall comply with Outline of Investigation for Power Units for Fountain, Swimming Pool, and Spa
Luminaires, Subject 379.
11A New – Added new requirements including tests for adhesives used in Underwater Luminaires, and relied upon water barrier integrity.
17.2 New – Added new requirements for luminaires rated more than 15 volts. Includes two exceptions.
New/Revised requirements from revisions dated December 19, 2013 are:
8.4.2, 8.4.3, 21.1 exc. # 2 New – Isolated low voltage luminaires, rated per 8.4.1 and marked per 40.13, shall have no provision for grounding.
22.1.1 exc. Revised – Isolated low voltage luminaires, rated per 8.4.1 and marked per 40.13, with dead metal in contact with pool water, shall have provision for bonding those parts to forming shell or mounting bracket (but not to a supply circuit grounding conductor).
8.4.1, 40.13 New – Isolated low voltage luminaires, rated per 8.4.1, shall be marked per 40.13 as for use with appropriate power supply
8.4.4 New - Isolated low voltage luminaires are exempt from high current test and electric shock test. Isolated low voltage luminaires with no dead metal in contact with water are also exempt from bonding millivolt drop test.

CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE: This Table and column "Verdict" can be used in determining how your current or future production is or will be in compliance with new/revised requirements.
