Impact, Overview, Fees and Action Required

Impact Statement:  Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes:  Standard updated to indicate the Effective Date and also to indicate this 2nd Edition will replace the 1st Edition as well as UL 244A (Solid-State Controls for Appliances) and UL 917 (Clock-Operated Switches) on October 19, 2018. The standards writer, UL, has indicated that no additional re-testing or re-evaluation is needed between now and the Effective Date. UL further indicates that new/revised constructions of existing product would be evaluated to the new 2nd Edition after October 19, 2018 (Source: UL 60730-2-7 “Summary of Requirements” dated August 18, 2014)

Schedule:  It is not intended that reports be reviewed against the new/revised requirements. Only new/revised products will need to be evaluated to the 2nd Edition after October 19, 2018. Current listings can be maintained after the Effective Date as long as no technical changes made.

Fees:  Fee for re-evaluation of current listings to 1st Edition, UL 244A and UL 917 standards, would need to be quoted after review by Engineers to determine scope. Products not changed after the Effective Date can remain listed.

Client Action Required:

Information – To assist our Engineer with review of your Listing Reports, please submit technical information in response to the new/revised paragraphs noted in the attached or explain why these new/revised requirements do not apply to your product (s).

Current Listings Not Active? – Please immediately identify any current Listing Reports or products that are no longer active and should be removed from our records. We will do this at no charge as long as Intertek is notified in writing prior to the review of your reports.
