V-Notched Shear ASTM D5379
Shear of Composite Materials by the V-Notched Beam Method ASTM D5379
Scope:The test determines shear strain, shear stress and shear modulus. The data can be used for research and development purposes concerning interply strength or composite material comparison.
Test Procedure:
A notched beam specimen is placed in a shear fixture. Strain gages can be applied to both sides of the specimen to assure that shear and not twisting occurs and failure must occur by shear. A load is applied at a specified rate until specimen failure occurs.
Specimen size:
The test specimens are 76 x 11 mm at composite thickness with a V notch above and below the 11mm dimension.
Data:
Shear Stress/Ultimate Strength, Shear Strain, Ultimate Strain and Shear Cord Modulus of elasticity
**Please note that this test description is intentionally generic in nature and aimed at providing a descriptive summary to enhance test understanding. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standards authorities.
