Scope: Per ASTM C880: "This test method covers the procedure for determining the flexural strength of stone by use of a simple beam using quarter-point loading.
Applicable Products: Dimension stone
Test Procedure: When testing in a dry condition, specimens are placed in an oven for at least 48 hours at 140 ̊F until three successive hourly weight measurements give the same value. Alternatively, specimens can be tested in a wet condition by immersing the specimens in water for 48 hours at room temperature. Upon completion of conditioning each specimen is placed onto the testing machine and the quarter point loading blocks are brought into contact with the specimen. A load is applied at a constant stress rate of 600 psi/min until failure is observed and the maximum load is recorded.
End Result: This test results in the flexural strength of the dimension stone.
