Standard: ANSI/NALFA LF-01 Section 3.5: Large Ball Impact Resistance

Certification Required: Required for the NALFA Certification Seal

Scope: Per ANSI/NALFA LF-01 Section 3.5: "This test measures the ability of laminate flooring to resist fracture due to impact by a large diameter ball."

Applicable Products: Laminate flooring

Test Procedure: Specimens are placed on underlayment foam and clamped to the base of the impact apparatus. The ball is dropped from an arbitrary height above the specimen. The ball is caught on the first rebound to prevent multiple impacts. Each impact position is at least 2 inches from a previous impact and any edge of the specimen. Each impact spot is observed for cracks or fractures. The impact height is increased or decreased as necessary until the maximum height at which no fractures or cracks occur is found. The ball is dropped at the maximum height two additional times to achieve three successful drops at the maximum height.

End Result: This test results in a maximum height for three replicate impacts that do not result in a fracture or crack in the flooring.
