Intertek to Provide Technical Expertise to the Marine Management Organisation in England
16 Aug 2021
Liphook, Hampshire, UK: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has been engaged as part of a framework contract with the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for the provision of specialist technical advice on Nuclear Projects. The MMO licenses, regulates and plans marine activities in the waters around England, below the mean high-water springs, and is an Interested Party during the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, including nuclear new builds (NNB).
Under this framework, Intertek will support the MMO in their role as Regulator and Interested Party, with the appraisal of technical documents associated with the pre-application, application and post-consent phases of the NNB marine licensing process. Utilising extensive experience in marine projects and the company’s team of marine technical experts, Intertek will provide advice to the MMO on a variety of topics such as fish biology, fisheries, shellfisheries and commercial fisheries, benthic ecology, sedimentary and coastal processes, sediment contamination, dredge/disposal and sampling requirements, marine chemistry and water quality, and underwater noise. Intertek will also draw on specialist advice from sub-contractors MarineSpace and Cooper Marine Advisors.
Anna Farley, Intertek Energy & Water’s Environment Team Lead, said: “We are very much looking forward to supporting the MMO with the licensing of a portfolio of Nuclear New Builds in England which will make an important contribution to the future UK energy mix as we head toward Net Zero”.
