Intertek Launches Innovative Mask Label Program to Increase Transparency and Traceability of Quality Mask Products

Hong Kong – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce the launch of our Mask Label Program, a voluntary program for Intertek customers who test their mask products at one of our PPE Centres of Excellence. The Mask Label Program will help support our customers by communicating the verified quality and performance attributes of mask products through an Intertek mask label, while promoting quality and increasing traceability of their products on the market.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant demand for medical face masks, respirators as well as community masks (reusable face masks) around the globe. While mask products are critical for protection, it is often difficult for wearers to identify safe and quality mask products, and consumers are forced to trust the claims on the packaging without any means to validate them. In addition, buyers of these critical supplies are sometimes provided with incomplete or even fraudulent testing reports that are claimed to be issued by authorized parties.
The Intertek Mask Label Program was developed in response to market needs: those of our customers who want a straightforward way to promote the quality and safety of their masks; buyers like governments and hospitals who need to ensure masks perform as promised to protect their employees; and consumers who are faced with so many choices when buying a mask and need a way to differentiate them.
Successful applicants obtain a mask label to affix to their mask products, packaging, website or marketing materials, that shows the testing standard or the guidance, and the classification attained (if any). It also features a unique QR code that links to the PPE Centre of Excellence directory housed on our public website, to help them promote the visibility of tested performance of their mask products through third-party verification.
