13 Jun 2013

Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany – Intertek, the leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, has announced that all obligations and agreements with clients pertaining to the May 31st 2013 REACh deadline were successfully fulfilled.

REACh (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances – EC 1907/2006) is a regulation implemented by the EU to protect human health and the environment by restricting the manufacturing and importing of hazardous chemical substances. REACh is a complex law that came into force in June 2007, with a multi-phased implementation approach spanning over an 11 year time period. May 31st 2013 marked the deadline for organizations dealing with substances produced or imported into the European Union (EU) at over 100 tonnes/annum to register with European Chemical Agency (ECHA).

Marc Thouin, VP Regulatory Services, Health, Environment & Regulatory Services, says “We can state, with great pleasure, all lead and member dossiers were submitted on-time in order to pass the 2013 deadline on May 31st. We thank all our clients for their cooperation and patience dealing with all the different steps needed to successfully reach submission of their respective files.”

Intertek is a global provider of REACh services providing a single-source solution helping manufacturers, importers and users of chemicals to comply with the registration, testing, and documentation requirements of REACh, working directly with the ECHA and individual EU governments. Supported by experts in locations in over 100 countries worldwide, Intertek has a proven track record in providing REACh Registration Services, testing data, consultancy and Only Representative services and has recently successfully passed two audits by National Competent Authorities under the REACH-en-force programme

Intertek is already working closely with clients to help them prepare for May 31st 2018 obligations which is the deadline for registration of phase-in substances in excess of 1 tonne/annum. The number of substances is expected to be fourfold larger than encountered with the previous two deadlines.

Dr. Ruud Overbeek, VP Global Health, Environmental and Regulatory Services shared “Although the next deadline of May 31st 2018 seems a long time away, companies will face a challenge in cost-effectively meeting REACh registration requirements where they may not have adequate information for the substantially increased number of substances expected to be registered. Building on our significant experience, our experts can efficiently support clients meet this important submission deadline.”
