Impact Statement: A review of all Listing Reports is necessary to determine which products comply with new/revised requirements and which products will require re-evaluation. NOTE: Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes: Revised and Added Construction, marking and Test requirements. Specific details of new/revised requirements are found in table below.

If the applicable requirements noted in the table are not described in your report(s), these requirements will need to be confirmed as met and added to your report(s) such as markings, instructions, test results, etc. (as required).

Notes are added to give consideration to prior evaluations involving the ASTM standard and their equivalency to the ISO standard, however, the previous edition allowed two options for the test and the ISO standard may only be considered equivalent to one of the two ASTM methods.
6.2.3.5 Added to require a polymeric material used as a coating other than zinc coating shall be subjected to identification of the compound using infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA),and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in accordance with UL 746A or CSA C22.2 No. 0.17. A compound that has been subjected to a separate identification investigation need not be re-identified. An organic material used as a coating other than zinc coating shall be subjected to identification of the compound using infrared spectroscopy (IR) in accordance with UL 1332. A compound that has been subjected to a separate identification investigation need not be re-identified.
6.2.3.15 Added to require infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for materials other than zinc used as coatings to provide corrosion protection.
7.3 Requires that polymeric cover plate material complies with the hot wire resistance to ignition test, and the finished sample complies with the glow wire resistance to ignition test.
8.8.2 (Cold impact for nonmetallic outlet box hoods) no longer permits cracking or breaking, whereas the previous edition did allow cracking provided that a 0.8mm (1/32 in) diameter rod could not be inserted through the crack.
8.9 Impact resistance, only applicable to extra-duty use in damp or wet locations, are now applicable to all outlet box hoods.
8.9.1.3 Added to allow the reattachment of reattachable outlet box hoods that come off during the impact resistance test prior to being subjected to further testing. Such outlet box hoods must be marked in accordance with clause 5.3.5.
8.9.2.2 Modified to require that outlet box hood other than for extra-duty shall be tested with a test weight of 2.72kg (6 lbs). There is no change to the test weight for extra-duty outlet box hoods.
8.10 Hinge stress resistance, previously only applicable to extra-duty use in damp or wet locations, are now applicable to all outlet box hoods.
8.10.4 Tests to ensure that a minimum force is required to remove the reattachable hood.
8.10.2.2 Modified to require that outlet box hoods other than for extra-duty be tested with a force of 9.0kg (20 lbs). There is no change to the test force for extra-duty outlet box hoods.

4.3.A An outlet box hood that is intended for use with receptacles of 15 and 20 Amperes in a wet location and marked according to either option in Clause 5.3.4, shall be of the extra-duty type and shall marked in accordance with Clause 5.3.8.
5.3.8 An extra-duty outlet box hood that is intended for use with receptacles of 15 and 20 Amperes in a wet location shall be marked ″Extra-Duty.″complies with the applicable requirements in Clauses 8.9.1.4, 8.9.2, 8.9.3, and 8.10.2 may.Other outlet box hoods that comply with the applicable requirements in Clauses 8.9.1.4, 8.9.2, 8.9.3, and 8.10.2 may be marked ″Extra-Duty.″
7.3.7 When required, the resistance to ignition tests for cover plates shall be conducted using finished cover plates or material samples. Testing both the finished cover plates and material samples is not required.
8.10.1.3 An extra-duty outlet box hood shall not come off as a result of the hinge stress tests.
An extra-duty outlet box hood may be marked in accordance with Clause 5.3.8.
