Impact Statement: A review of all Listing Reports is necessary to determine which products comply with new/revised requirements and which products will require re-evaluation. NOTE: Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date of June 10, 2016 unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes: New and revised outdoor use requirements. Specific details of new/revised requirements are found in table below.

Processing Schedule: So that production of products bearing Listing Marks will not be interrupted, the following schedule of approximate dates has been established to ensure Listing Reports are found compliant by Effective Date:

  • October 10, 2015 = 8 Month Report Review – Intertek will review all Reports. Update if compliance is verified or issue Findings Letter/Quote for any re-evaluations needed
  • December 10, 2015 = 6 Month Quote Cut-off – Quotes returned for necessary re-evaluations
  • May 10, 2016 = 30 Day Warning – Client advised of all non-compliant Reports to be Suspended
  • June 10, 2016 = Effective Date – ATM Suspended for all non-compliant Reports

Fees: An initial review of Listing Report (s) will be covered by a direct billing project and will be invoiced at not more than $1000 per report.

Current Listings Not Active? – Please immediately identify any current Listing Reports or products that are no longer active and should be removed from our records. We will do this at no charge as long as Intertek is notified in writing prior to the review of your reports.

A current tap that is intended for outdoor and additionally marked with an Enclosure type rating(s), shall be marked as identified in the Standard for Enclosures for Electrical Equipment, Environmental Considerations, UL 50E and comply with UL 498A paragraphs 7.11.2, 8.5.2 and 45.2.
7.1.1 Revised
In addition to markings identified in para. 7.1.1 a) through c), Para. 7.1.1 d) requires a current tap intended for outdoor shall be legibly and permanently marked with markings identified in paragraphs 7.2 through 7.11, as applicable.
7.11.1 New
A current tap that is intended for outdoor use employing adhesive-backed labels shall be suitable for outdoor use and include the markings as described in para. 7.11.1 a) through h).
7.11.2 New
A current tap that is intended for outdoor use and additionally marked with an Enclosure as identified in the Standard for Enclosures for Electrical Equipment, Environmental Considerations, UL 50E, shall comply with the Marking Section of Supplement SB7 of UL 498, the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles. A current tap identified for outdoor use shall also marked as described in para. 7.11.2 a) through f).
8.5.1 New
A current tap that is intended for outdoor use shall be provided with installation instructions which include the information described in para. 7.11.1.
8.5.2 New
A current tap that is intended for outdoor use and additionally marked with an enclosure rating, shall be additionally marked shall be marked "Enclosure Type ________ When Mated With ________ “or the equivalent.
8.6.1 New
A device whose purpose is to adapt either a dryer receptacle having a 14-30R configuration or a range receptacle having a 14-50R configuration to mate with a grounding-type attachment plug having a 5-15P configuration shall be additionally provided with installation instructions or the smallest unit container of the device shall be marked that include the words, "CAUTION – Risk of fire or electric shock.
Do not use with appliances that block access to the outlet for disconnection."
16.5 New
A device whose purpose is to adapt a dryer receptacle having a 14-30R configuration to mate with a grounding-type attachment plug having a 5-15P configuration shall comply with all of the following:
a) Conductively connect the blade that is marked G in the in the 14-30 configuration drawing in Wiring Devices – Dimensional Specifications, ANSI/NEMA WD6, to the outlet contact that is marked G in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6;
b) Conductively connect the blade that is marked W in the in the 14-30 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6, to the outlet contact that is marked W in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6;
c) Provide fuse protection rated at no greater than 15 amperes to the ungrounded outlet contact in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6; and
d) Be provided with installation instructions in accordance with 8.6.1.
16.6 New
A device whose purpose is to adapt a range receptacle having a 14-50R configuration to mate with a grounding-type attachment plug having a 5-15P configuration shall comply with all of the following:
a) Conductively connect the blade that is marked G in the in the 14-50 configuration drawing in Wiring Devices – Dimensional Specifications, ANSI/NEMA WD6, to the outlet contact that is marked G in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6;
b) Conductively connect the blade that is marked W in the in the 14-50 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6, to the outlet contact that is marked W in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6;
c) Provide fuse protection rated at no greater than 15 amperes to the ungrounded outlet contact in the 5-15 configuration drawing in ANSI/NEMA WD6; and
d) Be provided with installation instructions in accordance with 8.6.1.
Section 17C New
A current tap that is intended for outdoor use shall comply with all applicable construction, performance and marking requirements.

A current tap that is intended for outdoor use shall also not be provided with a means for mounting such as a hole, indentation, or projection.

A current tap that is intended for outdoor use shall have only have one set of blades.
Table 18.1 New
Table of Tests. Updated to reflect tests for a current tap identified for outdoor use.
Section 45 New
Test Series for a current tap identified for outdoor use.
Tests include to Rain and Sprinkler Test, UL 2438 followed by Dielectric and Leakage Current testing.
Testing shall be conducted in multiple positions (at least 4 positions).
