CASE STUDY | Extrinsic Teeth Stain Removal By Mouthwash
In Vitro Oral Care Product Testing
For tooth stain removal, mouthwashes are useful adjuncts to toothpastes. This study was carried out to assess the effect of a mouthwash on stained enamel. Bovine enamel samples were treated for four consecutive days with a standard staining solution, containing of tea, coffee and red wine. The colour of the stained enamel was measured by spectrophotometry and quantified using L* a* b* parameters. It was shown that stain removal was more effective, both visibly and spectrophotometrically, for the samples treated with mouthwash.
