Intertek Signs Exclusive Global Agreement with HIPG

Partnership provides opportunities to establish Intertek services in the Hambantota Port
Intertek Sri Lanka is pleased to announce that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with the Hambantota International Port Group (Private) Limited (HIPG), to provide innovative and bespoke Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification services.
Hambantota Port is known to be one of the key strategic ports amidst the world’s largest nautical/shipping routes, which will connect many countries and economic zones across the entire Asia-Pacific to Europe region and is expected to emerge as the busiest port in between Singapore and Middle East, transforming as the next largest container terminal. Mr. Johnson Liu, CEO of HIPG explained, “HIPG has great potential in energy services due to its location in the Indian Ocean rim, where 50% of the world’s maritime oil is traded. Our oil fuel bunker, LPG and future LNG operations are sure to cement HIPG’s position as an energy hub in the region.”
Intertek Sri Lanka signed a 10-year partnership to setup a state-of-the-art petroleum testing laboratory that provides testing services for fuel oil, marine products and bunker related inspection services. The laboratory will be fully accredited and qualified to test to IMO 2020 global Sulphur protocols, and its global capabilities ensure HIPG’s clients receive quality testing reports quickly and efficiently.
Mr. Sandeep Das, RMD Intertek South Asia said, “Entering this partnership heralds the emergence of mission-critical technical services to global clients operating in the world’s busiest shipping lanes. Both organizations will work together to promote and enhance the Hambantota Port as a global maritime location. We look forward to working with HIPG on this exciting project.”
The new lab will open up employment opportunities for the local community and provide exposure to laboratory operations of international standards. The commercial activities at the deep-sea port are expected to trigger economic development for Sri Lanka as well.
