Intertek showcases “Zero Waste to Landfill” Solution at Waste & Recycling Summit 2019 in Dubai
11 Nov 2019
Dubai, UAE – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, successfully showcased its bespoke “Zero Waste to Landfill” certification at the Waste & Recycling Summit 2019, demonstrating how companies can accomplish their sustainability goals by implementing Intertek’s innovative operational sustainability solutions. The three-day event, which focused on waste management and recycling services, was organised as part of the Facilities Management Expo in Dubai, UAE. It was attended by experts and industry professionals from across diverse facilities management disciplines.
Intertek expert, Samir Ahmed, Director of Business Assurance for the Gulf and Pakistan region, presented the “Zero Waste to Landfill” concept and sustainable practices for waste management and waste diversion. Responsible and clean manufacturing has become increasingly important for customers, regulators and other stakeholders. Organisations around the world have begun taking the necessary steps to reduce the amount of waste deposited into landfill sites each year. Improving waste management practices and waste diversion from landfills are important steps to demonstrate environmental stewardship and commitment to sustainability.
“Zero Waste” is an overarching goal that guides individuals to follow sustainable natural processes where discarded materials can become a resource for others to use. It includes designing and managing products and processes to eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials that may harm the environment. The approach also aims to conserve and recover all resources instead of burning or burying them. Zero Waste can help companies reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency and meet their environmental goals.
Ahmed’s presentation also shed light on how Intertek’s Zero Waste to Landfill certification can improve organisations’ entire value chains, saving both physical and financial resources through energy conservation and the reuse of raw materials. Zero Waste to Landfill certifications provide total piece of mind and assurance to customers, communities, and other stakeholders, demonstrating that the organisation is committed to improving its environmental impact by eliminating or reducing waste being placed into landfill. This offers enhanced credibility and visibility to an organisation’s sustainability credentials when it comes to reducing waste and improving practices for waste management.
Samir Ahmed, commented: “Zero Waste to Landfill certification can be acquired by any organisation that generates hazardous or non-hazardous waste, enabling them to demonstrate their commitment to achieving authentic sustainability goals. Sustainability services have been core to Intertek’s global business for more than 100 years, and we recently launched Intertek Total Sustainability Assurance to further support our clients’ efforts and commitment to sustainability. This new certification gives our clients an end-to-end, independent verification across their entire footprint. It is a new benchmark for companies to show their obligation and responsibility to overall corporate sustainability”
Upon completion of Zero Waste to Landfill or Corporate Sustainability certification, each organisation’s achievement will be highlighted on Intertek’s Sustainability Certification Directory, a publicly accessible database, underpinned by blockchain technology, which provides viewable certificates and full traceability.
