Intertek Group plc (Intertek), the leading international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries, has signed an agreement to acquire Expertises Technologies & Services Analyses S.A (ETSA), an oil inspection and testing company in France.

The company is being purchased from Air Liquide SA for a cash consideration of EUR 7.6 million (GBP 6.3 million), with closing to occur on 1 July 2010.

ETSA is an established provider of cargo inspection and laboratory testing services to the oil and gas industry in France. The company's testing services include analytical and inspection-related testing, research and development support for new fuels, gas products, lubricants, additives and related products as well as refinery support.

As one of the top three providers in France, ETSA will enhance Intertek's market position, providing a platform for the outsourcing of laboratory R&D on new-fuels development and refining support services in France.

ETSA employs 120 staff at six locations in France and will form part of Intertek's Oil, Chemical & Agri Division.

Wolfhart Hauser, Chief Executive Officer of Intertek, commented: "ETSA will expand Intertek's share of the French oil and gas testing and inspection market and increase our ability to support more outsourcing of new-fuels R&D and refinery support by local and global clients. The acquisition also adds new laboratory testing capabilities and will bring operational synergies to our European oil and gas laboratory network".
