Intertek makes acquisition from BASF

Intertek Group plc (Intertek), the leading international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries, announces that it has acquired for cash the Regulatory and Safety Testing businesses of Ciba Expert Services (Ciba ES) from BASF SE.
The gross assets acquired are approximately GBP 4 million and the revenue that the business will generate is expected to be around GBP 20 million in the first year.
Ciba ES provides services in two segments: regulatory testing and consulting services and; environmental and safety testing, to companies in industries including pharmaceutical, chemical, food, healthcare, consumer product and agriculture. The business employs around 200 people across Switzerland, Canada, UK, China, India, Brazil, Italy and Japan and offers a range of services and expertise complementary to Intertek Group’s services and clients.
Ciba ES’ Regulatory Services help clients to gain health, safety and environmental approvals for their products and to address hazardous substances and chemicals notifications and regulations worldwide, such as the EU’s ‘REACH’ chemicals registration regime and various regulations in the US and China. The businesses have particular expertise in supporting products being launched in highly regulated markets, such as healthcare, nutrition and chemicals, where more stringent legislation applies. CIBA ES’ Safety Testing services are used by a range of global companies primarily in the pharmaceutical and chemicals sectors to ensure their products meet relevant safety requirements.
The businesses will form part of Intertek’s Industrial Services and Analytical Services divisions.
