Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, announced today that it has been approved to conduct ozone emissions testing (Section 37 of the UL 867 Standard) for air cleaners to be certified under California’s ARB air cleaner certification program. As one of only two labs in North America approved for this testing, Intertek now gives air cleaner manufacturers a choice for faster testing, certification and market access.

Per California’s Regulation to Limit Ozone Emissions from Indoor Air Cleaning Devices, all portable air cleaner devices sold in the state after October 18, 2010 must be ARB-certified; ensuring that ozone emissions do not exceed 0.050 parts per million (ppm).

For California ARB certification, testing of indoor air cleaning devices must be conducted by a laboratory recognized under OSHA’s Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) program. Of the two California ARB-approved laboratories, Intertek is the only NRTL with a wholly owned and operated Ozone Emissions Testing Chamber.

“When manufacturers are standing in line for testing, market opportunity for their products is lost by the minute,” said Gregg Tiemann, Chief Executive, Intertek Commercial and Electrical division. “With our own ARB-qualified ozone chamber now online, manufacturers will realize significant time and cost benefit with single-point access to ozone, product safety and performance testing and certification.”
