Intertek partners with Appin to offer APPSEC certification scheme

Intertek is pleased to announce its partnership with Appin Security India Ltd., a unit of the Incubation Center of the Indian Institute of Technology, in developing the APPSEC program. APPSEC is a new product certification that includes requirements for the security of software applications.

APPSEC is built around a framework developed by Mr. Navin Chopra, executive director of Intertek’s management system certification business in India. This framework is based on internationally-recognized standards such as ISO 27001, OWASP, and SANS. APPSEC assessment will require two phases: a detailed technical assessment of the applications in Appin’s test labs, and a process assessment and certification by Intertek.

“APPSEC is the first product of its kind, allowing us to certify software applications for information security compliance. It will start a revolution in the IT industry,” said Navin Chopra, executive director of management system certification.

Technology is extremely fast-paced, often growing more rapidly than the laws designed to protect us from it. Many consumers distrust IT applications due to the prevalence of financial fraud and malicious code. To overcome these challenges, software developers, sellers, and buyers can use the APPSEC mark to increase confidence in their products’ security.
