This report details the life estimation analysis of a vanadium redox flow battery.  The life of a flow battery is dependent on the degradation of its supplementary components, the most important being the ion exchange membrane which allows for charge transfer between electrolytes without mixing of the fluids. 

The degradation sustained by the ion exchange membrane over time is assessed using resistivity measurements.  Resistivity is expected to increase as the membrane ages.  Ultimately, changes in resistivity will affect the battery’s power performance, as power is a function of resistance and current.  Intertek AIM analyzed the test data provided by the client to examine changes and trends in resistivity and determine whether the battery could achieve at least 9,000 cycles.
