In order to enforce quality control on children’s products and guarantee the health and safety of children, authorities in several provinces of China launched quality inspections for children’s products before Children’s Day (June 1st, 2016). Intertek has summarized the results below for your reference. 

 

Beijing

Before Children’s Day, the Bureaus of Quality and Technical supervision in several districts of Beijing launched special product quality supervisions and inspections:

Fujian

The Fujian Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a product quality supervision and inspection for 8 product categories including infant and children’s apparel, toys, baby carriages, children’s footwear, feeding bottles, infant diapers, children’s furniture and stationery. The inspection focused on product safety requirements and quality performance. The spot check inspected 186 batches of samples from 130 manufacturers; 185 batches were qualified and the pass rate was 99.46%.

Henan

The Henan Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for 4 product categories including children’s footwear, toiletries for children, children’s apparel and baby carriages in the first season of 2016. The spot check inspected 101 batches of samples; 1 batch was found unqualified.

Shanghai

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision recently launched a product quality supervision and inspection for toys, children’s car seats, children’s apparel, children’s high chairs, infant and children’s beds, accessories and diapers.

Of these, the failure rate of toys was 17.8%, failure rate of children’s apparel was 16.1%, and failure rate of children’s sleeping bags and accessories was 12%.

 

Shanghai

According to Article 7.3 of Shanghai Product Quality Regulation, gifts and awards provided by manufacturers, distributors and retailers shall not have irrational dangers that may harm personal and property safety, shall comply with relevant national standards, industrial standards or province standards that protect human’s healthy and personal and property safety if any.

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision recently launched a risk monitor for free toy gifts. 57 batches of samples were collected from market for monitoring,  including free toy gifts sold together with children’s dentifrice, toothbrush, stationery, food and batteries. Tested according to mandatory national standards, 45 batches of samples were qualified and the pass rate was 78.9%.

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision communicated the results of the risk monitor to manufacturers, distributors and local Bureaus of Quality and Technical supervision in order to encourage enterprises to standardize production, enforce product quality control, improve processes, reduce or avoid product quality and safety risks. In the meantime, the results were reported to the General Administration of Quality supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and suggested to enforce surveillance.
