By being certified with Green Gold Label, organization can ensure biomass products are produced in an environmentally friendly way, and promote sustainable biomass as a renewable energy source.

Green Gold Label (GGL) is an international certification program for sustainable biomass, established in 2002. The program focuses on the entire supply chain: production, processing, transport, and final use.

Focus Market Segments of GGL

The two focus market segments of Green Gold Label (GGL):

  • Biomass for the production of biobased chemicals and other
  • Biomass for electricity and heat production

Materials & Supply Chain

The GGL certification scheme covers the entirejourney of biomass, from the initial point ofproduction (e.g., forestry or agriculture) all theway through to its final use in applications likebioenergy or bio-based products, with materials as follows:

  • Woody Biomass: Wood chips, pellets, and other productsderived from both large-scale and small-scale forestmanagement practices.
  • Agricultural Residues: Leftover materials from agriculturalactivities, such as straw and stalks.
  • Residues from Nature and Landscape Management:Organic materials collected during the maintenance of natural areas or landscapes.
  • Biogenic Residues and Waste Flows: These are waste flowsand residues from the agro-food and timber industry(secondary residual flows) and tertiary residual flows suchas waste wood.
  • Biofuel/ Bioliquid*: fuel for energy purposes other than fortransport, including electricity and heating and cooling, produced from biomass.

Materials Claim

  • GGL Certified
  • GGL Controlled: Sourced under a GGL endorsed (controlled) scheme and corresponding claim(s).Material sourced under the participants owncertified endorsed controlled system

Supply Chain

  • Biomass Producer : Those who cultivate, harvest andproduce biomass resources.
  • First Collector : The entity that first acquires the biomass, such as a sawmill collecting sawdust or a CPO millcollecting palm kernel shells.
  • Trader : Businesses facilitating the movement of biomassmaterials along the supply chain.
  • Energy Producer : A facility that uses biomass to generate energy
