Effective October 19, 2018
This is an announcement of UL 60730-2-7 2nd edition replacing UL 60730-2-7 1st edition, UL 244A and UL 917.
Effective Date (see Schedule below): October 19, 2018
Impact Statement: Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.
Overview of Changes: Standard updated to indicate the Effective Date and also to indicate this 2nd Edition will replace the 1st Edition as well as UL 244A (Solid-State Controls for Appliances) and UL 917 (Clock-Operated Switches) on October 19, 2018. The standards writer, UL, has indicated that no additional re-testing or re-evaluation is needed between now and the Effective Date. UL further indicates that new/revised constructions of existing product would be evaluated to the new 2nd Edition after October 19, 2018 (Source: UL 60730-2-7 “Summary of Requirements” dated August 18, 2014)
Schedule: It is not intended that reports be reviewed against the new/revised requirements. Only new/revised products will need to be evaluated to the 2nd Edition after October 19, 2018. Current listings can be maintained after the Effective Date as long as no technical changes made.
Fees: Fee for re-evaluation of current listings to 1st Edition, UL 244A and UL 917 standards, would need to be quoted after review by Engineers to determine scope. Products not changed after the Effective Date can remain listed.
