Polymer consultation services includes analysis, recipe development, regulatory advice, processing and impurity identification for your business needs

Our Polymers and Plastics consultancy services are part of a diverse industry which spans such specialist areas including automotive construction, electronics and packaging. With such a wide range of potential applications, finding the right advice for your product can be a difficult task. Accordingly, Intertek experts are on hand to help you navigate the rules, regulations and requirements that surround the polymer industry.

Developing the right material for the right function
Polymer development requires adherence to a wide variety legal measures and guidelines. From Polymer registration to food contact regulation, specialist help is required to navigate these challenges efficiently. Our regulatory consultants are experts in a comprehensive range of industry-related rules and procedures, including packaging requirements, restricted substances, automotive industry guidelines, emission standards, import regulations even the rules that govern toy manufacture. Intertek consultants can provide in-depth recipe development advice, and advise which additives and fillers may best be used to optimal effect, providing the material you need at the cost and quality you require.

Intertek extensive consultancy services are supported by best quality testing and research equipment to the polymers and plastics industry. We can respond quickly to your needs and can provide the precise information that you need. Our consultants are experts in their fields, with decades of industry experience.

We can provide extensive technical consultancy services underpinned with the latest research equipment suited to determining the physico-chemical properties of polymers, with expert advice at hand to support your product innovation, to resolve manufacturing problems, investigate legal and patent disputes and to mitigate risks. Additionally, our analytical testing chemical and additives testing laboratories can determine identity and deformulate competitor products for levels of additives

With a team in key locations around the globe, we can guide you through legal challenges of the polymer industry, providing expert witness services for assistance in legal disputes and also perform critical analysis of your materials.

Polymer Registration
Our detailed regulatory knowledge and expert testing capability will provide you with the chemical data you need for new polymer registration. This includes average molecular weight (Mw), polymer composition and precise submission documentation. Whilst high molecular weight polymers may be exempted under REACH, manufacturers and importers of polymers may still be required to register monomers or other substances used as the building blocks of the polymer.

Other regulatory concerns include SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) and Volatile Organic Compounds in the polymer materials. Tight regulations exist for Food contact materials (e.g. European Food Contact Substances Authorisation) and pharmaceutical packaging in particular where migration or leachables testing provide data for our toxicology consultants to review, or review of testing date to explore Non Intentionally Added Substances - NIAS which help clients to make informed decisions about new packaging development or new product development.
