Perth, Western Australia – Intertek, the leading provider to industries worldwide, has been awarded the dimensional control contract by Bechtel for the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project in Western Australia.

Under the contract, which commenced in August 2013, Intertek expects to create 10 new Australian jobs and support 15 current positions. The 10 new positions are dimensional control surveyor roles which will be based on site at Ashburton North, 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia. The 15 existing positions include management roles located in Perth.

Kyle McNeil, Global Operations Manager for Intertek Surveying Services, said: “We are proud to be invited to execute the dimensional control surveying contract for the Wheatstone Project and to create Australian jobs. Our track record in safely delivering quality modular construction is excellent largely because of our talented surveyors as well as our highly evolved dimensional control management system.”

Dr. Stuart Gordon, Australian Operations Manager for Intertek Surveying Services, added: “This contract award is testament to Intertek’s reputation and specialist knowledge. Though Intertek has been operating since 1988, our Australian hub is relatively new and we are already seeing considerable interest from customers in the Australasian region. We look forward to safely delivering our expertise in dimensional control on the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project.”

Under the terms of the contract, Intertek will deploy multiple dimensional control survey teams to provide geometric assurance during the fabrication of modules at the Wheatstone Project module yards in Malaysia and China. Dimensional control surveyors will be located at the Wheatstone Project’s Ashburton North plant site to position the modules into their correct locations. Intertek’s dimensional control management system will bring together precise survey information from the geographically disparate locations into a central quality control system.

Dimensional control ensures that modules, which are being built at various locations overseas, are constructed to the right measurements and specifications so that when they are put in place and connected at the plant site they are exactly aligned. Dimensional control utilises proven engineering survey techniques and modern survey equipment to ensure first-time fit up and ‘clash-free’ design and installation of projects involving piping, structural and equipment components that must integrate. These services also help customers reduce design, re-work, and shutdown times as well as reduce man-hours in potentially hazardous areas and activities.
