Press Release

Intertek acquires APTECH: a full-service engineering consulting company specializing in the life management of infrastructure, facilities, and equipment.

An unplanned shutdown of an oil or chemical plant due to component failure is an unwelcomed scenario. Intertek works with clients in implementing Risk Based Inspection (RBI), an approach that can minimize downtime and ensure equipment longevity.

Analysis of plant equipment, such as industrial pipe work, using the RBI approach can identify where to look for potential damage, what type of damage could occur, appropriate inspection techniques that should be applied, and the frequency of inspections that should take place. Inspections can therefore be prioritized on specific assets that are most likely to display problems.

As a result, items with a high probability of failure and subsequent impact are given a higher priority for inspection than items that are of high failure and low impact, allowing for a more rational application of inspection resources.

Key Features of RBI:

  • A more cost-effective alternative to traditional inspection, usually by means of nondestructive testing
  • Clients will be able to manage a more reliable plant operation and equipment
  • Ability to identify operational risks associated in equipment through material degradation
  • Adherence to codes of compliance resulting in increased safety
  • Minimizing plant downtime
