Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries globally, is pleased to announce its participation at the International Meeting on New Chemical Regulations (ChemReg 2011) on July 11, 2011 in Romainville, France. This conference provides a technological, regulatory, and economical overview of the issues posed by a growing number of chemical regulations enacted by the European Union and many other countries around the world.

Intertek’s Analytical Services General Manager, Christian Gimenez, will be delivering the presentation: “Nano particles and regulatory status: nanotechnology in cosmetic products.” The aim of this presentation is to address the complexity and the uncertainties for a working definition of the term “nanomaterial” for regulatory purposes using specific examples that may be applicable to certain classes of nanomaterials used in the cosmetic industry sector. The presentation will cover:

  • Fundamental concepts of science, engineering and technology at the nanoscale level
  • How to define and describe nanoscale science and nanotechnology
  • Factors and properties of nanomaterials that play a role in potential health effects and environmental impact
  • Critical factors to consider for definition and characterization of nanomaterials.
