Intertek’s experts can assist with your industrial and consumer product safety data sheet (SDS) and label needs for multiple jurisdictions.

The purpose of hazard communication is to provide information to users of hazardous chemicals and chemical mixtures so that they can protect themselves from any physical and health hazards through the use of SDS and/or product labels.

Many global jurisdictions have enacted legislation defining the method of hazard communication for both industrial and consumer products.  In some jurisdictions, such as Europe, both consumer and industrial product SDS and labelling requirements are addressed by one regulation. In others, industrial and consumer product SDS/labelling requirements are addressed separately.

The US addresses industrial products under OSHA’s (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910) and consumer products under the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA).  In Canada industrial and consumer products are addressed by the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR) and Consumer Chemicals & Containers Regulations (CCCR); respectively.

Intertek’s hazard communication team consists of a variety of subject matter experts including toxicologists, chemists, transport and regulatory specialists. With our combined expertise, experience and industrial knowledge we understand the nature of our client's specific needs and anticipate potential compliance challenges, ultimately saving both time and money to market.
