Increasing our level of commitment to the environment, Intertek provides commercial furniture manufacturers certification to the BIFMA level™ program. level™ certification is a multi-attributed, multi-faceted approach to sustainability certification. Based on the BIFMA e3-2008 standard, level™ is a third-party verification program that provides manufacturers with valuable resources for evaluating and communicating the environmental and social impacts of their furniture products, company and processes. Under the level™ certification program, Intertek will evaluate products and processes based on four performance criteria:
Similar to the U.S. Green Building Councils LEED program, level™ certification requires specific prerequisites for compliance, optional credits and 3 levels of conformance, with 3 being the highest. Undergoing an independent third-party certification process from Intertek and meeting one or all of the levels of requirements, manufacturers can achieve the level™ conformance mark.
Participation in the level™ certification program provides a pathway for furniture manufacturers towards greater sustainability not only for individual products, but throughout the entire supply chain. Manufacturers who receive the level™ conformance mark are verifying their policies and guidelines, furniture products, suppliers of materials and components, as well as manufacturing facilities have met stringent requirements for certification.
