Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce that the Group’s near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

We've had our science-based target approved

Intertek applied for its near-term greenhouse gas emission targets to be validated by the SBTi and following a rigorous process, the SBTi has confirmed that Intertek’s science-based targets meet its strict criteria and recommendations.

Intertek is committed to:

  • reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2019 base year;

  • reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel and employee commuting by 50% within the same timeframe;

  • ensuring 70% of its suppliers by spend will have science-based targets by 2027.

The SBTi, a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), defines and promotes global best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.

Through the validation of its scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 targets, the SBTi has found Intertek to be in line with the ambition to limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

This achievement serves to reconfirm Intertek’s commitment to sustainable growth and acknowledges the Group’s ongoing efforts to limit the effects of climate change as part of the Race to Zero.

André Lacroix, CEO of Intertek, said; “We are a force for good in the world, and have long recognised that sustainability is the movement of our time, and it is central to everything we do. I am proud that Intertek has been recognised for taking proactive steps to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by the Science Based Targets initiative. This validation helps to underscore the positive impact we have on the world through the services we provide to our customers and our own, end-to-end Sustainability Excellence agenda.”
