Intertek is authorized to certify the Services Quality Standards of the Spanish Ports

Bilbao, Spain – Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, has recently been authorized by the Spain Ministry of Development and the State Ports’ Public Body to certify the services quality provided by port terminals and shipping companies that operate in the Spanish ports. This concession has been issued according to the criteria based on the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 standard.
The State’s Ports Services Quality Standards have been developed with the intent of increasing the port terminals service quality and improving their processes, responding this way to the needs of maritime transport, inland distribution and logistics services.
The Services Quality Standards help to demonstrate port terminals and shipping companies that their services comply with a number of specific quality characteristics and obtain a distinctive mark (conformity mark) issued by a certification body such as Intertek. Furthermore, the certified bodies will earn a bonus in the port taxes.
Ángel Monteagudo, Technical Director of Intertek Spain’s Business Assurance group, stated: “We’re delighted to receive the authorization from the State’s Ports body to perform quality conformity assessments to maritime terminals, port services providers and shipping companies, and others, and issue the corresponding certificates. The importance of the ports as part of the logistic and transport supply chains makes increasingly more important to establish quality requirements that extend the quality management systems and therefore, give response to an increased customers’ satisfaction”.
This certification complements Intertek’s quality and quantity inspection services for the shipping and port sectors, helping marine companies to optimize their resources by establishing a single contact point for their needs that allows them to save time and costs.
