Hong Kong – Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries around the world, is pleased to announce that its Hong Kong laboratory is now accredited to test children’s toys entering the Gulf markets. Testing is conducted to verify that toys meet safety and regulatory compliance requirements under the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Technical Regulation initiative on children’s toys (BD131704-1), which went into effect January 1, 2014.

This standard was put into place to ensure children’s toys in the local markets of the member states meet according to applicable standards concerning conformity assessment and other general requirements. Under this regulation, every consignment of toys from importers must be independently certified to obtain the mandatory G-Mark before entering the GCC market.

One of the first laboratories in Asia to attain full accreditation, Intertek’s Hong Kong office has served the toy industry for more than 40 years. Intertek leverages this deep expertise to keep our customers at the forefront of changing testing methodologies, safety requirements, standards and regulations, to support so that our customers can be as efficient as possible in gaining access to different markets or implementing their strategic plans.

“It is our privilege to provide a one-stop solution for our customers, by offering services from safety assessment and full scope testing, to technical file preparation, all the way to certification,” said Christina Law, Chief Executive of Intertek North East Asia. “This accreditation to test toys for the Gulf markets further expands our accreditations in other emerging markets, including South Korea, Brazil and Indonesia, helping our customers better navigate obstacles in logistics and language. It also adds to our global testing capabilities in other significant markets such as the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and mainland China.”
