London – Intertek, the leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, has appointed Chris Marchant as the new Head of Cables and Offshore Development, for Intertek’s Energy & Water Consultancy Service.

Chris joined the business in October and takes up responsibility for the cables and offshore development team as it embarks upon the next phase in its growth strategy.

Chris combines international experience as technical director at a leading financial institution with the expertise of a chartered electrical engineer working in the electricity supply industry. Chris brings an in-depth understanding of customer relationships, and coupled with his track-record in project management and risk control for infrastructure and capital programmes, he aims to build upon Intertek’s reputation for valued quality in submarine power cables, HVDC interconnectors and offshore wind farm export connections. Key to this strategy is offering exciting opportunities for newly qualified engineers and scientists to work alongside marine industry professionals.

There is a general consensus at the policy level that interconnected energy markets are beneficial to society in terms of price competition and security of supply. However, offshore development projects are particularly capital intensive and stakeholders face a unique combination of risks and challenges and are understandably anxious to protect their interests.

Chris joins Intertek from Parsons Brinckerhoff with whom, as Business Development Manager, he drove their growth of professional technical services in the offshore transmission sector.  In a previous role as Vice President of Power at Man Investments, he took responsibility for the implementation, management and delivery of foreign direct investment in environmental protection programmes, including the $600 million China Methane Recovery Fund, which involved leading due diligence and development teams based in London and Beijing.

“We’re very pleased that Chris Marchant has chosen to join our team”, commented Frank Beiboer, Managing Director at Intertek’s Energy & Water Consultancy Services. “Chris will be responsible for heading up our global portfolio of offshore cable operations and brings 25 years of experience in power transmission and distribution to the table.”

Intertek is currently exhibiting at the 2013 EWEA Offshore Wind conference in Frankfurt 19th – 21st November 2013.
