Intertek’s Shanghai Facility offers solutions to North America manufacturers to meet the growing needs for wireless industry

Chicago, IL – Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, today announced that it offers global manufacturers the ability to become compliant with CTIA (The Wireless Association) standards for IEEE 1725 (Rechargeable Cellular Telephone Batteries) and IEEE 1625 (Rechargeable Mobile Computing Devices) CATL (CTIA Approved Testing Laboratory) in its Shanghai facility. Intertek’s Shanghai services allow manufacturers and their suppliers to assess compliance of their portable device battery to industry standards in China.

CTIA accreditation allows Intertek to provide the complete range of testing and inspections required within the industry which will help global manufacturers meet compliance faster. Recognized for being able to test for both IEEE 1725 and IEEE 1625, Intertek can now offer its customers the widest possible range of safety and performance-based testing services for batteries used in mobile phones and portable computing devices.

“In order to remain competitive, manufacturers must have the ability to demonstrate that their batteries and other key devices for all wireless products are compliant in multiple markets,” said Darrell Lehman, Intertek’s Vice President of Information and Communications Technology. “Intertek is helping manufacturers to become certified to industry standards. This service is critical for meeting customer demands, and ensuring faster, higher performing products in China’s rapidly expanding wireless and battery market. The accreditation from CTIA for our facility in Shanghai is changing the way the wireless market must do business and how manufacturers must have access to new accreditations as quickly as possible.”

CTIA certification is a requirement for manufacturers that supply cells, batteries, adapters, and devices to leading telecommunication providers in the United States. CTIA IEEE 1725 covers the Requirements for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones and CTIA IEEE1625 covers the Requirements for Rechargeable Batteries for Laptop and Tablet Computers. These requirements also regulate the contents of battery design, production, assembly, leakage protection, overcharge, mechanical performance, and quality control.

“The new accreditation for Intertek’s Shanghai facility will not only increase opportunities for completed agreements, but also will offer additional solutions to manufactures globally through one single laboratory,” said Lehman. “The competitive landscape is changing in this market and to better achieve success and meet heightened demands for new standards and certifications, Intertek offers wireless manufacturers solutions across global markets. This ultimately instills enhanced business practices and better meets the demands of the end user – the customer.”

Intertek maintains CTIA approval to help provide a global solution for battery testing, inspection, certification and advisory services. For more detail more about Intertek and the services it provides to the wireless industry, please visit www.intertek.com/ctia.
