Intertek Expands Existing Laboratory Network with Centre of EMC Testing Excellence for Audio Visual Products in South Wales

Intertek has taken over operations of the Sony UK Tec Approval Services EMC laboratory at Bridgend, South Wales - providing another UK testing location for its EMC clients in the Welsh industrial heartland.
United Kingdom - Located in Sony Pencoed Technology Centre, Bridgend, just off the M4 at Junction 35, is an EMC laboratory which provides unrivalled facilities for the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing of audio visual and IT products. Originally established by Sony to test audio visual products and later run by Sony UK Tec Approval Services, Intertek is now operating the laboratory to provide additional UK EMC expertise, capacity and testing capabilities to their clients.
With a wide range of product EMC Standards within their testing scope, they will primarily be providing testing services for the following Standards:
- EN 55013: Emissions for Audio products & broadcast receivers
- EN 55014-1 and -2: Emissions & Immunity standard for Domestic appliances
- EN 55020: Immunity for Audio products & broadcast receivers
- EN 55022 / CISPR 22: IT & Telecoms products emissions testing
- EN 55024: IT & Telecoms products immunity testing
- EN 61326: Emissions & immunity standard for Laboratory, control & measurement equipment
- EN 5 50121: Railway equipment communications & power supplies
- EN 61000-6-1,2,3,4: Generic EMC standards for emissions / immunity in Industrial & domestic
environments - EN 60601-1-2: Medical products EMC standard
Intertek has a long standing relationship with the Welsh site, as its safety testing facility has been accredited to test domestic products for BEAB safety approval since 2000. The addition of the EMC laboratory into Intertek’s testing network therefore capitalized on existing synergies in safety and EMC testing disciplines – whilst being a facility immediately available to clients.
Laboratory Manager Adam Pers of Intertek UK, said: “The Sony Bridgend EMC laboratory was an obvious choice for us to include on our expanding laboratory network. It offers another UK test site - so our clients can easily be onsite and witness any testing if they need to, it extends our existing capacity which shortens our turnaround times even further, it offers what we believe to be an unrivalled EMC testing suite for AV products and enables our clients to access the sites multi-million pound investment in equipment, instrumentation, semi and full anechoic chambers, plus 7 shielded rooms.”
With the specialist AV EMC expertise of Gareth Morgan and his team still fundamental to the operation of the site, existing customers of the laboratory will be assured of technical continuity and levels of service that they have come to expect and new customers will now be able to leverage this additional knowledgeable resource.
The Bridgend laboratory compliments Intertek’s existing global network of 23 accredited EMC laboratories, providing EMC testing services to national and international Standards across a wide variety of industry sectors including home appliances and electronics, military and aerospace, medical devices and telecommunications equipment.
