Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, announces the launch of its new ETL Listed Alarm System Certification Program for the Life Safety and Security industry. For the first time, central stations and alarm service companies have a choice in who provides their alarm system certification.

ETL Listed Alarm System Certification program provides alarm service companies, and central station owners and operators greater options and therefore potential savings in equipment and components. Alarm service companies can now expand the selection of products they install in their facilities, as long as the product has been tested and certified by an OSHA-recognized “Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory” (NRTL) such as Intertek.

“The launch of this program marks a new day in an industry that has long been underserved,” said Tom Connaughton, Director, Life Safety and Security Services, Intertek. “This industry deserves a choice, and we are going to provide the exceptional quality of service we have provided all of our clients across a wide range of industries for the past 100 years.”

This program has been established to assist the Fire and Security industries in their efforts to implement and maintain the highest levels of alarm system reliability. The ETL Alarm System Certification program assures Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), such as fire inspectors and insurance underwriters, that the alarm system has been properly installed, is being maintained, and is subjected to annual third-party surveillance by an NRTL. This ensures full compliance with all federal, national and local standards and codes.

The ETL Listed Alarm System Certification program helps to ensure safety in commercial and residential central station facilities across North America. Participation in the ETL program gives companies several advantages in the marketplace:

  • Freedom to chose products or components tested and certified by any NRTL
  • Cost savings over their existing certification program
  • Access to My Test Central, Intertek’s simple and secure database that gives alarm service companies the ability to generate a temporary certificate (with a two week expiration) that can be previewed, printed and handed to an AHJ on the spot
  • Increased installation values means increased revenue opportunities
  • Higher system reliability which leads to reduced fire alarms and decreased costs overall
  • Insurance incentives for customers
