Intertek Provides Extended Support for REACH

Extended REACH Pre-Registration and Only Representative Services

Companies that are new manufacturers / importers of substances into the EU, or are appointing an Only Representative to assume the responsibilities of a new importer of substances into the EU have one half year to pre-register. Using extended Pre-Registration, Intertek will help these companies ensure sales continuity in the European market.
REACH is a new EU regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force on 1st June 2007 and replaced a number of European Directives and Regulations with a single cohesive system. REACH applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU (in quantities of 1 tonne per year or more), and places responsibility on industry to manage the risks that chemicals may pose to health and the environment. REACH also applies to all chemicals, not only industrial chemicals, but also those used in day-to-day products such as cleaning products, inks and paints, and articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances.
Intertek’s REACH support includes extended pre-registration for companies who manufacture or import for the first time. Intertek also enables non-EU manufacturers who appoint an Only Representative to take on importer responsibility after December 1, 2008. Intertek’s REACH services will help these companies to insure they will be able to sell their products in the European market. Intertek has already assisted hundreds of global, regional, and local companies meet the initial December 1st pre-registration deadline and they are now assisting these companies meet the further registration requirements.
