Intertek, (www.intertek.com/reach) the leading global provider of quality and safety solutions, activated their global REACH Pre-registration, Only Representative, and Substances Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) participation with resounding success. During the first week of June, Intertek pre-registered thousands of chemicals for their clients and began the initial stages of SIEF participation using the pre-SIEF system. Using Intertek’s Only Representative service and pre-registration process, pre-registration was effectively provided to companies in Europe, North America and Asia from a range of industry sectors including oil and gas, fine chemicals, cosmetics, automotive, aerospace, and textiles.

The Pre-Registration period under REACH began June 1, 2008, but ends on November 30, 2008 giving companies a limited window of opportunity to submit the requisite pre-registration information for chemical substances. Failing to provide data means that a business can not delay registration and faces the risk of being unable to sell within the EU.

Intertek’s REACH pre-registration services can be applied as a complete solution or in a stepwise manner. Intertek’s standard REACH process begins with the definition of responsibilities for REACH on a company-wide level and for each substance under the scope. Intertek will help companies collect and organize all of the required data, create the necessary pre-registration information packages for substances, and can submit the pre-registration packages to the European Chemicals Agency. Intertek’s REACH services ensure companies understand their REACH responsibilities and see no disruption to European sales.

Intertek’s Only Representative service enables companies located outside the European Union to participate in and complete the pre-registration process for REACH. The service provides the necessary legal presence and representation in the EU, including representation to the European Chemical Agency; technical management of REACH process; and submission of information to the EU to fulfill a company’s REACH obligations. Intertek’s services are provided on a global basis irrespective of a company’s location and includes REACH centers of excellence in the US, Canada, UK, France, China, Hong Kong, and India.

“REACH is requiring many companies to review and submit a range of data within the limited June to November time frame,” adds Dr. Ruud Overbeek, Global Director of Intertek’s Health and Environmental Services. “Our solutions to tackle the requirements of the EU REACH regulation have proven to be successful through these pre-registrations. We can support and take pressure off our customers, by helping them to achieve global compliance earlier and without interrupting their business process.”
