Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, will be hosting a Sustainability Seminar titled "Healthy, Productive & Green" on September 15th, 2017 at the Intertek Architectural Testing office in York, Pennsylvania. This seminar, sponsored by The Building Commission Association and the National Capital Chapter, is a must-attend event for professionals in the sustainable and commercial buildings industries.

Intertek's Health, Environmental & Regulatory Services (HERS) will be holding the seminar in conjunction with Intertek’s Building Sciences Solutions group from 10:00am-2:00pm (EDT). The morning of the seminar will feature Session 1 discussing sustainability schemes. In addition, registrants will have the chance to take a tour of Intertek's state of the art architectural testing campus, after which lunch will be provided. The remainder of the event will focus on Session 2 discussing Passive House for today's commercial projects and closing remarks.

Sustainable buildings promote more than efficiency and durability, there is an emerging theme around occupant-centered health and wellbeing, reflected in both regulatory and market-driven schemes. Intertek HERS expert Sabrina Cescolini, Manager of Sustainability, states, "research demonstrates that the design of a building has material impact on health and wellbeing of occupants. However, those involved in building construction, capital projects or facilities management experience challenges navigating the number of schemes available, potential overlap and the return-on-investment". Sabrina will present during Session 1 at 10:00am and will discuss the evolution of rating systems such as LEED v4 and the WELL Building Standard, the pros and cons of implementing these schemes into projects, and portions of these schemes that add the most value to your project.

Following lunch, Adam Ugliuzza, Intertek’s Senior Project Engineer in the Building Science Solutions group, will be presenting during Session 2: Passive House for Today’s Projects. Adam is a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®) with the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS), complimenting his over 10 years of experience in building enclosure consulting and commissioning. Adam will discuss strategies to approach a Passive House project in North America and the tools needed to optimize the building envelope for your project. PHIUS has developed the Passive House standard based on climate-specific comfort and performance criteria in North America that presents a low-cost solution to energy reduction in the built environment.
