Ontario, Canada - Intertek, the leading provider of quality and safety services to industries worldwide and Health, Environmental and Regulatory Services (HERS), is pleased to announce that they will be attending the Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland from March 12-16, 2017 and during which will be involved in a variety of workshops, exhibitor hosted sessions and research posters.

Intertek expert Ms. Lois Haighton, Director, Food & Nutrition Group will co-chair a workshop titled, “Scientific, Regulatory, and Safety Considerations for Probiotics and Microbiome Targeted Therapeutics” on Monday March 13, 2017 from 9:30 am – 12:15 pm. The guidelines for these products are not harmonized, across the different product categories or between different jurisdictions; thus, making the relevant regulatory path difficult to navigate. During this workshop, Dr. Alexandra Lobach, Manager-Toxicology, Food & Nutrition Group will also be presenting on “Understanding the Safety Requirements and Regulatory Hurdles of Different Product Classes Containing Probiotics”.

Additionally, Intertek will be hosting two exhibitor sessions:

  • Tuesday, March 14 (4:30 - 5:30 pm):
    Challenges in Developing Ocular Drugs from a Bioanalytical and Toxicological Perspective

    Details: Ocular drugs are challenging to develop from bioanalytical, analytical and toxicological perspectives. This presentation will provide ways to help face these challenges and review regulatory requirements.
  • Wednesday, March 15 (12:00 - 1:00 pm):
    How to Provide Meaningful Analytical Data for the Toxicologist to Assess Inhalation-based Medical Devices: Analytical and Toxicology Perspective
    Presenters: Gyorgy Vas, PhD, Business-Technical Scientific Liaison, Intertek Pharmaceutical Services; and Hana Fikree, MSc, DABT, Manager, Toxicology, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Intertek Scientific & Regulatory Consultancy
    Details: Due to gas environment exposure, analytical testing for inhalation-based medical devices is challenging. We will present analytical approaches to address these challenges and provide alternatives required for toxicological assessments.
