Most Canadian provinces now have legislation in force or will soon have imposing requirements on industry to report Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. In Ontario and British Columbia, these requirements come into effect for fiscal year 2010 for many industries, with submission of GHG emission reports due in the first half of 2011.

Industry pressures are also a driving factor with many major corporations and big-name retailers championing GHG reduction strategies. Customer and stakeholder pressure are also key drivers for companies to perform GHG emissions reporting and reductions.

How is your company managing the reporting requirements? Has your company initiated a strategy yet to manage your corporate carbon and sustainability profile? Have you determined whether your company must report 2010 GHG emissions? Have you started to receive requests from your customers requiring disclosure of your GHG emissions? Are you prepared for a cap and trade system?
