Intertek supports Welsh Water’s largest coastal investigation project
July 07, 2016
Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, announces that it will lead modelling and compliance for the largest ever coastal investigation for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW).
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) is investing over £8 million in scientific investigations at 49 coastal sites around Wales. The work will investigate a range of water quality issues at bathing and shellfish waters and will help to target investment to support environmental outcomes. Intertek Energy & Water has been invited to lead the modelling and compliance investigations for the work and will be providing numerous innovative techniques and a state-of-the-art assessment method.
Intertek Energy & Water will be working with the DCWW Capital Delivery Alliance, comprising of Mott MacDonald Bentley and joint ventures between Morgan Sindall/Arup and Skanska/Arcadis, supporting an extensive field data collection programme designed to ensure that data are suitable for model calibration and compliance investigation. This data will be combined with outputs from sewerage network models to feed into Intertek’s state-of-the-art compliance assessment systems.
Intertek Energy & Water Manager Paul Taylor said: “Our appointment reflects our heritage and experience in successfully delivering the largest and most successful coastal programmes for the UK water industry. This includes our leading-edge tools and the value acknowledged by operators and regulators”.
Chris Mooij, Director at Intertek Energy & Water added: “We have been working continuously with DCWW for 15 years and have built an extensive knowledge of the physical processes of coastal waters, estuaries, river catchments and reservoirs. This work is a valuable step in extending our understanding of water quality issues and building on previous solutions in order to meet the latest regulatory targets.”
