As herbal supplements become more and more popular, the risk of adulteration in supplements increases, as does the need to assure their quality, efficacy and safety. Herb identification is a non-target analysis in a complicated matrix that requires intricate analytical techniques that have high resolution, sensitivity and accuracy and can provide information on molecular structures of components.

In this case study, we describe a fast procedure for identification of shiitake product with LC-HRMS by measuring its chemical profile and its biomarker compound (eritadenine).
