Intertek Hong Kong Hosts Toy Safety Training Workshop in September

To address the safety risks associated with toys, numerous safety standards and testing protocols have been developed and implemented all across the globe.  As a result, Intertek is hosting a 2-day training workshop on 17 Sept, 2013, and 26 Sept, 2013, focusing on EU/US Toy Safety.

In the training workshop, we will address the requirements of physical and mechanical safety, as well as battery operated toy testing set out in EN71 and ASTM F963. Our testing experts will walk you through the key methodologies of age grading determination, and share the common failures during testing. Practical training on physical tests and electrical safety measurements will also be covered.

Introduction of Toys Safety Standard in EU & US Markets
  • An overview on EN71 and ASTM F963 physical and mechanical safety requirements
  • Highlight of key differences in US/EU safety standards
  • Hands-on training on proper techniques of physical & mechanical tests
 Understanding the labeling and warning requirements
  • Valid format of warnings on packaging
  • Key issues in labeling evaluations

Age Grading Determination and Common Failure of Toys
  • Knowledge of physical and mental abilities as well as the play needs and interests of a child to determine appropriate age grade
  • Identify potential toy design hazards and an insight into common failures
 Battery-operated Toy Safety
  • Principles of electrical and battery-operated toy safety (EN62115 and ASTM F963)
  • Practical demonstration of electrical and battery-operated toy tests
